An educator, author, and chemical engineer, Oleksandra F. Kostiuk (1899-1985) was born and educated in Ukraine. She taught in a displaced persons camp in Germany and came to the United States following World War II. She settled in Minneapolis, Minn., where she was active professionally and in many Ukrainian American organizations, including the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Born in Ukraine in 1915, Jacques Hnizdovsky studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and Zagreb. Mainly known for his woodcuts, Hnizdovsky was also an illustrator, painter, and art historian.
